Gyricon is an artist publication created by Adam Fearon specifically for eink readers. Gyricon means ‘turning light’ in Greek and is the name first given to a prototype of eInk technology developed by Nicholas Sheridon at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) during the 1970s.

Across several distinct sections the work explores the artist's on-going interest in surface, representation and the use and reuse of works of art in a formally curious investigation of eInk's position, which hovers between the digital and the analogue and between object and image. Through investigating the algorithms that underlie such formats Fearon also mines the changing identity structures that play upon the subjects of the work.

The work was first shown at the New York Art Book Fair in September 2015 and is BDP's first and quite probably only book created with for eBooks, in line with the format specific nature of the artist's interest.

Adam Fearon was born in Dublin where he studied Fine Art at NCAD. He went on to study at Frankfurt’s Städelschule. He has exhibited widely, including recently at NR Projects, Berlin; Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin and the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt. He lives and works in Berlin.
